5 Questions (more fun than reading boring bios, no?)

1.  Who would you love to work with – alive or dead?

  • Andrei Tarkovsky. His characters and stories are singularly unique and the visuals he creates hauntingly beautiful. He understood how film was different to any other art form. I always go back to his polaroid photography for inspiration.

2.  What recent film did you last enjoy?

  • Exit Through The Gift Shop was the best ride I got in a while. This film really got me hooked and amazed. Documentaries are so under appreciated at times…

3.  What recent film did you not enjoy?

  • I guess the last one I fell asleep watching it. I’ll never know. Maybe it was brilliant!!

4.  What’s the best advice you’ve gotten?

  • Style comes from the cinematographer’s life experience and his interpretation to the emotional beats in the story. By default, a cinematographer will have his thumbprint and signature by contributing to the picture.. That’s why their view point on style is irrelevant if it does not tell the story. In fact, it is worse than irrelevant – anything that doesn’t push the story forward pushes it back. Bill Dill.

5.  If you could make any film, what would it be?

  • I know it would take place in Finland. You can still find places that remain untouched as if time stood still. It’s a rare place with many untold stories that need to be filmed before our modern culture normalizes it out.
